- Abstract:
- In order to preserve and improve the value of protected areas it's needed the management for which they have been designated. Management actions have shown that they cannot always be effective. The changes are generated by random causes: environmental transformation, new threats or other factors. Activities planned or carried out in the protected area are considered threats only if they affect or degrade the values for which the protected area was established. In the initial phase, understanding the evaluation of management actions, their incidence and correction are essential elements for the efficient management of protected areas. Because we work with complex systems, the correction of some management actions can take a long time. The application of well-targeted corrections is necessary following the findings of a management that has not been properly planned or for adapting to new conditions. Therefore, the continuous and careful evaluation of the results / impact of our activities in the protected area, as well as taking measures at an early stage to improve these activities, should be an integral part of day-to-day management. The monitoring and reporting systems transmit efficient images and data, which will contribute to the sustained achievement of an operative, conclusive and transparent management. Monitoring gives the best results when it can be considered an essential activity of the organization and when it enjoys important support from the authorities and stakeholders. The use of evaluation results provide relevant information, being essential for of protected area management. Assessing the efficiency of protected area management is a positive tool, which helps managers in their work and is not perceived as a system of supervision and penalty for inappropriate results.
