Shcherbakova", abstract = "The purpose of this article is to identify the difficulties of written medical discourse genres that may be encountered by a medical discourse translator and should be introduced to the intended translators in this field. For this purpose, a survey of professional translators was conducted to identify the most common genres of medical discourse which they encounter in their professional activities. It resulted in the following list of medical discourse genres: instruction for medical use, case history, medical drug website, preclinical drug trial and article. As an example, the characteristics of the “article” genre were analyzed which will cause the greatest difficulties for translators (the multifunctional nature of this genre, length of sentences, inductive method of presentation; the presence of new, unrecorded terms, tables, charts and graphs which may include non-verbal information and also precision words, graphic abbreviations and hyperlinks). The results obtained from the analysis of this genre and the survey of professional translators can be used by linguists regarding various special discourse genres in other areas as well as for familiarizing the intended translators with the most typical medical discourse genres so that they could further avoid difficulties while working with them.", address = "51 Alexander Malinov blvd, Sofia, 1712, Bulgaria", booktitle = "References: 4th International Multidisciplinary Scientific Conference on Social Sciences and Arts SGEM2017, www.sgemvienna.org, SGEM2017 Conference Proceedings, ISBN 978-619-7105-95-7 / ISSN 2367-5659, March 28-31, Book3, Vol.1, 19-26 pp, DOI:10.5593/SGEMS", chapter = "ART {\&} HUMANITIES: Section Language {\&} Linguistics", doi = "10.5593/SGEMSOCIAL2017/HB31/S10.003", isbn = "978-619-7105-95-7", issn = "2367-5659", keywords = "written medical discourse; medical discourse genres; “article” genre", month = " 4th International Multidisciplinary Scientific Conference on Social Sciences and Arts SGEM2017", note = "References: 4th International Multidisciplinary Scientific Conference on Social Sciences and Arts SGEM2017, www.sgemvienna.org, SGEM2017 Conference Proceedings, ISBN 978-619-7105-95-7 / ISSN 2367-5659, March 28-31, Book3, Vol.1, 19-26 pp, DOI:10.5593/SGEMSOCIAL2017/HB31/S10.003, 4th International Multidisciplinary Scientific Conference on Social Sciences and Arts SGEM2017", number = "3.1", organization = "Bulgarian Acad Sci; Acad Sci Czech Republ; Latvian Acad Sci; Polish Acad Sci; Russian Acad Sci; Serbian Acad Sci {\&} Arts; Slovak Acad Sci; Natl Acad Sci Ukraine; Natl Acad Sci Armenia; Sci Council Japan; World Acad Sci; European Acad Sci, Arts {\&} Letters; Ac", pages = "19-26", publisher = "STEF92 Technology", series = "International Multidisciplinary Scientific Conference on Social Sciences and Arts-SGEM", title = "{ANALYSIS} {OF} {WRITTEN} {MEDICAL} {DISCOURSE} {GENRES} {TYPICAL} {FOR} {TRANSLATORÂ}’{S} {PROFESSIONAL} {ACTIVIT}", type = "Proceedings Paper", url = "https://www.sgemsocial.org/index.php/jresearch-article?citekey=Kurilenko2017101926", volume = "17", year = "2017", }
