abstract = "Motivation has been the subject of numerous books on human resources management. However, it is not frequently discussed in the energy sector, and particularly not in the mining industry. The ongoing restructuring processes in the Polish mining industry make it impossible to identify a consistent motivational scheme. The existing programmes, due to the ever-changing operational conditions of mining companies, are maladjusted to employees’ expectations. This article attempts to evaluate the expectations of miners towards their employers. The surveys carried out for this article enquiring about the motivations and expectations of employees covered a group of respondents comprised of miners working underground. The surveys were aimed at outlining the motivations and primary needs of this professional group. This subject could be relevant in the context of introducing effective changes in companies, a process which, to succeed, requires an effective motivational scheme. 
Organisational changes arising from ongoing restructuring processes should be preceded by consultations and surveys of expectations among stakeholder groups, including miners.",
