A NEW IDEA OF PROPERTY. POLITICS FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE MANAGEMENT IN THE EASTERN EUROPE (1945 - 1989)

  • Ragusa, A.
Abstract:
On the basis of an already extended literature – concentrated on the fields of juridical analysis, history of art and economics – the paper will propose a reflection around the matter of politics for cultural heritage management focalising the area of Eastern Europe between 1945 and 1989. It will be concentrated on the matter of the new trends and political directions adopted in this particular field of activity and intervention under the socialist regimes. It will try to answer a main question: what kind of concept the new regime promoted and introduced with regard – particularly – to the cultural assets and politics for their management, and what kind of linkage can be established with the new direction socialism introduced in this area? Linked to this first and most relevant, it will try to discuss other questions, particularly linked to the matter of rupture and continuity in the reflection of intellectuals and State-officers, and – more generally – in the governmental activity, during the period of the “great transformation” that involved the emergence of new fields of activity and attention, especially the problem of urban landscape and urban planning. Finally, it will try to propose some elements of reflection around the matter of continuity and discontinuity after the collapse of socialist regimes.
