ABSTRACT
To study the characteristics of anxiety and psychological defense mechanisms of patients with Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) for the upcoming coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) were examined 50 patients which were staying on in-patient treatment in the Institute of cardiology named after V.A. Almazov. We measured the level of personal and situational anxiety, as well as used the structure of psychological defense mechanisms. The data were analyzed using statistical comparison of means and correlation analysis. The following results were obtained, patients vary in the severity of trait anxiety depending on, whether they have surgery, it was also revealed that patients awaiting coronary artery bypass grafting, more use of the psychological defense mechanisms ("projection", "denial", and "reactive formation"). Psychological defense mechanisms in this group of patients have a significant correlation with the scales of anxiety. Thus, the prospect of a CABG surgery significantly affects the emotional state of the patient and used in the structure of psychological defense mechanisms.
