INTRODUCTION OF NEW STUDY PROGRAMME USING INNOVATION-BASED APPROACH

The aim of this research is to identify and measure the demand and the requirements for a new master programme in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) area and estimate to what extent Innovation-based approach could be used for new study programme development. The authors of the given research paper have analysed the situation in Latvia and Lithuania in November 2015 till February 2016. Using Innovation-based approach to the new study programme creation and introduction, the authors stated two main research questions for testing the statistically approved significant demand for new master programme:
RQ1: Could the innovation based approach be used for the development and introduction of new study programme?
RQ2: Is there a sufficient demand in the Latvian and Baltic States market for new master programme in ICT area?
In the given research the authors were used the following methods: critical analysis of literature sources, quantitative analysis and interpretation of the primary and secondary data. As primary data sources three types questionnaires for different target groups were used (Questionnaire for Employers, for ICT students; for everybody); and 2 types interviews. The research results clearly approved that new study programme could be successfully developed using innovation development life cycle while several impact factors still leave big space for discussion.
Practical implications: The research could impact the behavior of Universities’ top management and stakeholders in using innovation-based approach to developing and introducing new study programmes.
