The last one hundred years have represented a very dynamic period in evolution of Slovakia. This period is connected with changes of constitutional organization, political regimes and direct involvement into both World Wars. All above the mentioned facts, there are significant factors that influenced the administration system of country while in reversed causal relation, it can be considered as a reflection of each single process. The dynamics of evolution is best demonstrated by the fact that Slovakia has been almost for a thousand years a fixed part of Hungarian Empire whilst the 20th century brought the opportunity of leaving this state. This century is also connected with creating the mutual state with Czechs, independent war episode, and repeated incorporation into Czechoslovakia under the communist supremacy. This evoked in climax of the beginnings of creating the own state in democratic conditions. The public government and its regional unit went through similar dynamic evolution; as result of each thesis chapter, the political aspects are the most relevant force of transformation. In the following evaluation we will recapitulate the role of these factors.
One of the key problems in each transformation of regional organization of the administrative units was the number of these units, which significantly determinated its next selection. Part of this process was formation of the core areas, altogether with transitional areas, which were primal subjects of each reform discussion. Its function was to keep proportionality among units from the viewpoint of size aspects, the number of residents, or in case of southern parts, the ethnical structure. As a result of the narrow form of Slovakia, every regional unit in each model became a border character. Mostly southern border areas were very often under many changes because of incorporation into units with more north situated centre, with the goal of keeping majority of Slovaks. This fact can be observed in every organizational change in the 20th century. The same fact makes a big role in the current model of eight regions.
