ABSTRACT

Hard coal in Poland is a fuel used mainly for the production of electricity. For this reason coal is essential to ensure the country’s energy and social security. Currently there are 80 000 workers employed in the Polish mines (as of 31.12.2016) who maintain their families, drive the economy and pay taxes. The annual cost incurred by the state in connection with the functioning of only one unemployed person is approx. 2100 EURO taking into account only the health insurance costs, opportunity costs [1]. Mining is therefore a significant employer especially in the Silesian region. The problems faced by coal companies force them to take active steps in the field of energy market modeling with particular emphasis on the hard coal role. This issue is extremely important due to the huge decline in demand for raw materials, coal prices and the unstable financial condition of producers. A huge problem are also job loss employees fears. The developed theoretical model of hard coal sales will allow for the creation of new strategies and will enable the simulation of decisions possible consequences.
