ABSTRACT
The role of spatial planning and urban planning is essential in terms of guiding territorial cohesionS policies, which is at the heart of achieving a harmonious, sustainable development throughout the European union. Although, different approaches are being developed in the development of spatial plans and strategies across countries, they are designed to help unite government programs by identifying a wide range of government policies in the fields of the health, employment, education, transport, environment , housing, culture, etc. In this context, the importance of spatial planning in the shaping of economic development policies is of paramount importance, both in identifying the need for housing for socially vulnerable population groups and in defining the opportunities for developing transport infrastructure. In addition, account should be taken of the demographic situation as well as the trends related to its change. The purpose of this study is to outline the influence of strategic spatial planning on the development and trends in the demographic condition of the separate region, since at the core of the socio-economic development of the region is the human and his her activities, which, on the other hand, the functional characterization of spatial planning should include improvement and conservation of natural resources and natural heritage, improvement of cultural heritage, development оf energy resources, promoting the development of high-quality and sustainable tourism, or in general, the main goal is, the achievement of a balanced sustainable development of the separate region. In this connection, in part, the scope and nature of the activities under consideration by the way of spatial planning, regional development and regional planning give us grounds to treat them as similar or rather as extremely closely related activities.
