MERCHANDISE - MEDIA REPORTS AND URBAN CHARACTER. A SIGHT TOWARDS INTERWAR SPAN OF CLUJ-NAPOCA

ABSTRACT
This indicated research embodies a current phase of concerns regarding Cluj-Napoca’s commercial spaces within the historic center in order to assign its pure character of the city. Merchandising is a key-factor in a center area on the matter of competing businesses, social and ethnic interaction and also maintaining a full social life of the city. Our current findings point out a severe drop in high-end department stores in the historic area of the city. In this way, low standard department store alters the quality of this trustworthy city. This analysis is based on site studies, urban sprawl analysis, la belle époque pictures and annual reports – that have been analytical synthesized in order to provide an accurate outline. An interwar time period has been preferred as relevant by the virtue of real clues offered by media reports one hundred years ago. Interwar published reports have also been useful in order to rebuild the local glow and character of Cluj-Napoca; likewise this further research raises awareness on the commercial decay matter of this pleasing city. Disclosing, authors give validation on the established idea of maintaining a high commercial standard within the historic center. Beneficial in reviving high-end department stores from the city center there will be a need in conserving the cities’ particular character and also excluding current negative aspects will be vital.
